***There are no charges or fees for any part of this process.
Our only requirement for payment from talent is from commissions after a talent obtains work.
Advice for people just getting started:
- Never pay mandatory upfront fees of any kind for representation. For extra work as well.
- Try to research a company before going into an interview.
- If you feel like you are dealing with a sales rep at your interview, just leave. Always wear your cheapest pair of shoes when you go in. That is the first thing a salesperson looks at to see if you have money to burn.
- Children under five years old do not need professional photos. Their looks change too quickly. Simple, quality digital photos are fine.
- Always get a second and third opinion before joining a company. Find the best fit for YOU.
- Watch out for flattery! It's usually followed by a sales pitch for expensive classes or photos.
- No single individual knows everything in this business. Take in all you hear with a grain of salt. Believe half of what you hear and investigate the rest.
- If you are getting into the business for fame and fortune, think again. Acting is about passion and the work. Very few make a living doing this.
- No one can guarantee work or auditions. If they do, they are trying to sell you something.
- Portland is NOT Los Angeles or New York. In fact, there is no comparison really. The market for acting in PDX is small. Requirements for head shots and resumes can be completely different. Ask your agent what they need from you for representation.
Don't wait for your ship to come in-swim out to meet it with AIA! Good Luck
